Según un estudio realizado en EEUU, sólo la televisión le quita el primer puesto a Internet en materia de información científica.

Un estudio realizado en EEUU indica que Internet es la segunda fuente utilizada para buscar noticias científicas, por detrás sólo de la televisión y pese a que la mayoría de los usuarios no confía ciegamente en la información que encuentra en la Red.

El informe del Pew Internet and American Life Project dice que el 20% de los estadounidenses obtiene la mayoría de la información científica de manera online, frente al 41% que citó la televisión como su referencia principal. Tanto periódicos como revistas son las preferidas por un 14% de los usuarios, y la radio sólo por un 4%.

La diferencia desaparece en las personas que tienen conexiones a Internet de alta velocidad en su casa: de ellos, el 34% afirma que acude a la Red la mayor parte de las veces, y el 33% a la televisión.

Pero una cosa es buscar... y otra muy distinta confiar. Sólo el 13% de los que buscan información en Internet dice que lo hace ante todo por su fiabilidad, y la mayoría escoge este medio porque le parece cómodo.

De hecho, en torno al 80% de las personas que buscan información online intenta comprobar su exactitud en otro sitio (otra fuente en Internet, recursos fuera de la Red o el estudio original) y muchos de ellos usan más de una de estas alternativas.

Cuando hablamos de noticias generales, los porcentajes descienden. Aquí, Internet aparece después de la televisión local y la nacional, la radio y los periódicos locales como fuente preferida de información. Los únicos que quedan por debajo son los periódicos nacionales.
